RTM Cross Campus to Positively Impact University Students

SERDANG, 19 October - The success of RTM Cross Campus Program has proved to show positive impact on the students on institutes of higher learning (IPTA) in Malaysia, said the Minister of Information Communication and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim.

He said the program provides an avenue for students to highlight their talents and creativity through direct participation in the activities held by RTM.

“The program aims to strengthen mutual rapport between RTM and the IPTA as well as fostering better affiliation among leaders and the students of IPTA,”

He added that the program is a better alternative in nurturing the spirit of unity and national integrity among students in line with the 1Malaysia concept hence to induce love for the country regardless of students from different religious beliefs and races.

The program was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, involving agencies under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture namely Department of Broadcasting, Department of Information, Department of National Cultural and Arts, National Film, FINAS, Bernama, the National Museum, ASWARA, the National Art Gallery and also Malaysian POST.

Through the program, the initial approach will involve a university being chosen to gather other varsities according to Central Zone A, which comprised of Universiti Putra Malaysia, National Universiti Malaysia, Islamic Science University Malaysia and the National Defense University Malaysia.

For the year 2010, the program will be extended to Central Zone B where it involves University of Malaya, University of Technology MARA, International Islamic University and Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris; the South Zone will gather University of Technology Malaysia, Universiti Tun Husseion Onn and University of Technology, Malacca; the north Zone will involve Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Darul Iman and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan meanwhile the west coast zone will gather Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.

Also seen during the event were Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Head of Broadcasting Department (RTM), Datuk Ibrahim Yahaya, and Vice Chancellor of UPM, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah.
