SERDANG, Feb 17 – The new Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Students Representative Council (MPP) shall fulfil the university students’ reliance and mandate through their excellent performance within this one-year phase of appointment, said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R .Abdullah.
He said UPM MPP leadership must grasp their five functions which are included under Section 52(10), UPM Board and the functions would reflect their performance as MPP representatives of precise action through training series which they attended previously.
“The training is intentionally to guide on how to be a professional and skilful leader who practises systematic working culture that would be emulated by the next leaders in future.
“I am so concerned on the measurement and the procedure that has been legislated as any action should be in line with the government’s aspiration,” he said during the Appointment Conferral and Pledge Ceremony of UPM Students Representative Council Members for 2008/2009 session which was recently held in Serdang.
Dr. Nik Mustapha mentioned in facing this new challenging era, university’s students had to project their professional image, sensibleness and rationality as an outstanding leader.
“The culture of negative demonstration should be eradicated in order to be in a civilized society. The MPP members must always demonstrate their positive personality and high-quality working etiquette.
“The MPP reps need to include the component of human capital in organizing activities to ensure the produce of competent individuals as well as competitive ones as it is the main focus of the Ministry of Higher Education,” he said.
In addition, Syamsul Salleh speaking as the President of MPP 2008/2009 Session said that the recently appointed MPP needs to establish a rapport with the students as well as the administration in ensuring solidity of the needs, safety measures and also the welfare of the students of that indirectly leads to the university’s excellent performance.
“The new MPP’s modus operandi should be in motion with high teamwork resilience between students and MPP that doubles as the medium where as the university’s administrations acts as the enabler.
“The MPP’s new slogan, ‘Your Aspiration is MPP’s Inspiration’ would be the navigator towards excellent performance of the students in all aspects and advocating issues involving students’ welfare and security,” he said. Mohd. Syamsul is the third-year student of Bachelor of Education (Bahasa Malaysia as the first language).
