Disabled student elated to start lectures at FBMK

SERDANG, Oct 6 – A disabled student (OKU), Tan Shieh Li, has decided to continue her studies at the degree level, Bachelor of Arts in Malay Literature, at the Faculty of Modern Languages ​​and Communication (FBMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Having a vision problem, she said she would do her best throughout her studies and was pleased with the treatment provided by the Disability Services and Support Unit, Student Affairs Division, UPM, when they welcomed her during the registration of new students, 2022/2023 session at the Twelfth College, UPM.

"I had the experience of staying in a dormitory during high school at Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas, Setapak. Therefore, I probably have no problem managing myself here and doing my best to pass with flying colours.

"If I encounter a problem, I will contact the UPM Disability Unit directly, and so far, I am satisfied with the disability facilities provided here," she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Disability Services and Support Unit, Student Affairs Division, UPM, Marlinah Muslim, said her department will always help disabled students who pursue their studies here.

"We will pay close attention to disabled UPM students and help them if they have any problems. At UPM, we also have several disabled-friendly accommodations for convenience and comfort.

"Special study rooms at the college, special vision paths and even special vans are also provided to facilitate their affairs. UPM also has disabled rooms for dwarfs and people in wheelchairs where the switch is a little lower to aid them," she said. – UPM
