PETALING JAYA, 26 June - 14 postgraduate students from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) attended a lecture by renowned deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) scientist Nor Aidora Saedon which took place at the Department of Chemistry Malaysia to broaden students' understanding of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) forensics and its importance in criminal investigations, recently.
Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science UPM, Senior Lecturer, Dr Mohd Rashidi Abdull Manap said the visit and participation of postgraduate students gave students valuable insight into the world of DNA research and its connection to the field of chemistry.
"The lecture titled safe handling and processing of DNA evidence covers the various applications of forensic DNA and its importance in criminal investigations. Students also gain knowledge about the safe handling, processing and storage of forensic DNA samples.
"The event is part of the teaching activities of the CHM5002 Laboratory Safety course, which is coordinated by Prof. Datuk ChM Dr. Taufiq Yap Yun Hin. This extraordinary event marks another important milestone in the scientific community's continuous efforts in seeking knowledge and innovation," he said. .
He added that this sharing session inspired the next generation of scientists to learn more about forensic science. -UPM
