UPM wins third place in the FELDA Ping Pong Chairman’s Cup

BANGI, April 19– The Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) ping pong team won third place in the championship of the FELDA Ping Pong Chairman’s Cup 2019 in the category of Agency/Statutory Body/GLC and received a medal and a cash prize of RM400.

UPM sent two teams, namely UPM A and UPM B comprising UPM staff.

UPM A won third place. The team comprised Mohd Fuad Kamarudin, Prof Dr. Mohd Adzir Mahdi, Zamili Mohamed, Joha Muhsidi Abd Wahab and Sahari Kasim.

UPM B that was represented by Mohamad Azwar Bakar, Dr. Eris Ellianddy Supeni, Dr. Mohd Faid Abd Rahman, Mohd Noor Azizul Akbarruddin and Abdul Haris Wahab progressed successfully into the second round.


The prizes were presented by the FELDA Chairman, Tan Sri Megat Zaharudin Megat Mohd Nor.

At the group level, UPM A defeated both the FELDA Wilayah Kuantan and PKNS C 2-0 and emerged as the winner for Group 7.

In the second round, UPM A defeated TDM D 2-0, while in the quarter-final, the team triumphed over MPOB 2-1.

Unfortunately, UPM A lost 1-2 to TDM A in the semi-final.

At the group level, UPM B defeated TDM C 2-1 but the team lost 1-2 to LHDN B and emerged as the first runner-up for Group 2.

In the second round, UPM B lost 1-2 to LHDN A.

The UPM ping pong team participation in the championship was also in preparation for the upcoming championships of the Statutory Bodies Sports (SUKANUN) and the Intervarsity Sports (SUKUM).

The championship that was held for the first time and organised by the National FELDA Sports and Recreational Club in collaboration with the FELDA’s Sports and Recreational Club Kuala Lumpur and the FELDA Semarak Institute had attracted 32 teams from various agencies including Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT), Malaysian Army, Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), and Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

The championship offered a total of RM9,730 cash prizes in different categories. - UPM
