UPM STUDENTS’ UNISCENT CANDLE PRODUCT WINS THIRD PLACE IN NATIONAL MICRO ENTERPRISE PITCHING COMPETITION 2022

MELAKA, May 14 - Uniscent candle, a product created by two first-year students from the Bachelor of Accounting programme at the School of Business and Economics (SPE), UPM, Mohamad Azeem Mohamad Isa and Wilson Pang Khong You successfully received two awards in the National Micro Enterprise Pitching competition (NMEPC) 2022.

They achieved third-place out of 46 group entries from public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges and secured first place in the Technology and Innovation category.

Mohamad Azeem Mohamad Isa and Wilson Pang Khong You brought home a cash prize of RM3,000.00, a plaque, and a certificate presented by the Secretary of the Strategic Planning Division, Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), YBrs. Fazidah Mustafa.

Mohamad Azeem said this was his first national-level competition, and many excellent products were showcased by other higher education institutions.

"I am extremely grateful that Uniscent achieved third place, and through this competition, I have learned a lot from industry professionals in further developing our product and business," he said.

Their participation was guided by the Director of the Centre of Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mass Hareeza Ali, who served as their mentor for the scented candle product made from recycled cooking oil, innovatively infused with the aroma of local fruits such as rambutan, as well as pandan and lemongrass scents.

This competition is part of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) efforts to develop well-rounded and balanced students with a tendency towards entrepreneurship as a career choice and to foster more student startups, particularly those based on technology and innovation. - UPM
