UPM organises pre-launch ceremony and inauguration for Golden Jubilee Celebration

SERDANG, Dec 30 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has organised a Pre-Launch Ceremony and Inauguration of Logo for the Golden Jubilee Celebration in conjunction with its 50 years of establishment (1971-2021).

 

The event also provides advance information on the Golden Jubilee Celebration which will be held throughout 2021.

 

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said the celebration was timely and as a token of appreciation for the aspiration of excellence and success of all parties in the development of UPM.

 

“UPM continues to strengthen its reputation at the international level when it manages in improving its world ranking consistently, while various rating bodies have evaluated and given high recognition to UPM. The series of success should be celebrated by all staff, students and alumni," he said.

 

The slogan of UPM "Agriculture, Innovation, Life" has been chosen as the theme of the Golden Jubilee Celebration. It describes UPM as a legacy of knowledge and as agricultural leader that contributes greatly to the improvement of life as well as enrichment of knowledge and innovation, especially in agriculture.

 

The theme also reflects shared values ​​with the community, government, institutional partners, industry and other stakeholders.

The combination of these three words will feature the legacy of agricultural excellence in UPM, display the scholastic value at the university and highlight the differences between UPM and other higher education institutions.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan launched the logo, witnessed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis Dato' Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Syed Putra Jamalullail and the University Management members.

 

The symbolic handover of the 50 Years Golden Jubilee Celebration logo was also presented to the Chairman of the Board of Deans, Principals and Institutes.

 

 

The logo was designed by Chief Executive Officer, Placestogo Asia Sdn. Bhd., Mohd Hairul Azizi Amat Tokimin, who is an alumni member of UPM Class 2001 and 2005.

At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan also launched "Serdang Angels Van and Coaster" and Smart Putra® Bus.

Serdang Angels is UPM’s rugby team that was formed more than 40 years. It has achieved a host of distinguished achievements both at university and national levels.

Smart Putra® Bus is a smart application that optimises the campus bus movement schedules, verifies passengers, records the number of passengers and reports the statistics instantly and directly to the UPM Control Centre, thus facilitating students’ movements in planning the routes to their respective lecture halls.

"The digitalisation of campus bus will be able to help the university to monitor movement and speed of every bus, and record the movement pattern map of the buses that would help make predictive analytics decisions to further improve the efficiency of campus bus management," said Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan.

Meanwhile, the year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a university from 1971. UPM started as a School of Agriculture in 1931 when it was upgraded to the College of Agriculture Malaya in 1947.

The historic moment took place in 1971 when it was upgraded into a university status and named Universiti Pertanian Malaysia. In 1997, a change of name took place and to this day, it remains as Universiti Putra Malaysia. - UPM
