UPM is World’s 123rd Best University, Jumps 20 Rungs

SERDANG, June 9 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continued its excellence in the QS World University Rankings 2023 when it managed to leap 20 rungs to be ranked 123rd best in the world and the second best university in the country. This excellent position thus records the best achievement of UPM in the history of international rankings.

Referring to UPM's achievement in the QS World University Rankings 2023, four (4) evaluation indicators showed an increase in ranking, namely academic reputation, employer reputation, academic staff to student ratio and the percentage of international students, with the international student indicator seen as UPM's main strength when ranked 99th in the world.

This shows the reputation and international recognition of the academic ability and quality at UPM, which has successfully attracted international students to pursue study programmes at UPM and is on par with leading international universities.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said although UPM faced various challenges, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dedication and full support obtained from various levels of staff based on the mission, vision, values ​​and culture of excellence had enabled UPM to continue to record success after success in all aspects, especially in research and international reputation.

"It is hoped that this achievement will help further enhance UPM's uniqueness which in the end will provide a meaningful contribution to the country’s progress and the community’s well-being," he said.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Roslan said despite continuing to record improvement, as an education institution that always prioritises quality and excellence, UPM believes there is much more room for improvement so that this excellence can be further enhanced.

"Among the initiatives that will be continued is to pay attention to the quality of research in key areas, especially agriculture and food security, as well as to improve the university's reputation locally and globally," he said.

To achieve this agenda, UPM will continue to intensify its efforts in an organised and structured manner through benchmarking in terms of UPM's practices and achievements with outstanding universities in the region and the world. - UPM
