UPM crowned overall champion of SUKUM 2022

SERDANG, September 24 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has won the 44th Malaysian  University Staff Sports Championship (SUKUM) 2022.

The championship was celebrated after UPM collected 18 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Dato' Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said he was proud of the achievements of UPM staff athletes who succeeded in qualifying UPM to become the overall champion of SUKUM 2022.

"This is the first time UPM has succeeded in winning the championship, and I am grateful to all UPM members, especially the UPM staff athletes and volunteers who helped make the SUKUM event a success," he said.

He added that the organisation of SUKUM is a platform to strengthen the relationship and kinship among institutions of higher learning in the country through sports and to uplift the sports culture in their respective institutions.

"I believe through sports events like SUKUM we can further improve the mental and physical resilience of individuals as well as being able to improve the wellbeing index among staff," he said.

Meanwhile, second place was held by the University of Malaysia Perlis with 17 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze.

SUKUM, which lasted for eight days, competed in 18 sports events and offered a total of 136 gold medals, 136 silver medals and 196 bronze medals. In addition, a total of 400 volunteers were also involved in SUKUM 2022. - UPM
