TOP AGRO @ UPM EMERGES CHAMPION IN BUSINESS PITCHING AND WINS BEST BOOTH

BACHOK, August 14 - Top Agro @ UPM has emerged as the champion in the Business Pitching Competition and won the Best Booth Award in conjunction with the Structured Entrepreneurial Incubator Programme (SEIP) organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).

The victory allowed UPM to bring back RM3,000 and RM500 in cash as well as a certificate of appreciation presented by MoHE’s International Relations Division Undersecretary, Datin Noorazah Omar, at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, UMK.

A student from the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM, Ahmad Shukry Yahya, who represented Agrowers Industrial Company, managed to win the jury with an innovative idea brought through the rock melon farming project using fertigation under the mentorship of the Director of the Centre of Entrepreneurial Development and Graduate Marketability (CEM), UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mass Hareeza Ali.

"I did not expect to emerge as the champion for this business pitching competition because of the fierce competition among other universities as they brought innovative products to represent their incubators.

"I have also received an offer from the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) to carry out a joint venture in the rock melon farming project using the latest technology," said Ahmad Syukri.

He also thanked CEM UPM for trusting Agrowers Industrial Company to implement the rock melon farming project.

SEIP is an initiative of the National Entrepreneurship Programme under MoHE in commercialising products based on innovation and technology, creating jobs, and improving the national economy.

A total of ten incubators from five public universities and two polytechnics had successfully produced 42 products in the clusters of Digital Technology, Science Technology, Agro Industry, Social Entrepreneurship and Creative Industry. - UPM
