Prof. Dr. Mohd Sapuan received ‘SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership’

DETROIT, 5 April – A lecturer from Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan Salit receives “SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership” from Society of Automotive Engineers International (SAE International) here. This award was presented during SAE Annual Conference WCX Experience at Detroit, Michigan, United States on 5-7 April 2022.

This medal was presented by President of SAE International, Dr Sri Srinath and Dr Subir Chowdhury himself, who is the Chairman and CEO ASI Consulting Group, LLC, Michigan.

Besides, this award SAE Subir Chowdhury Medal of Quality Leadership honours those individual like academicians or industrial practitioners whose achievements are recognized and contributed their expertise with the aim to advance and promote the principles and adoption of quality in the profession of mobility engineering.

 Prof. Ir. Mohd Sapuan is the first recipient of this award from outside United States. This award is presented in recognition of his exceptional contributions in the area of composite material research and the positive impact he has on the mobility engineering industry.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Sapuan expressed his gratitude in receiving this medal. Past recipients of award were experts in the field of automotive from renowned companies and university in United States such as General Motors, Dynax Corp., Caterpillar Inc., JD Power and Associates dan University of Maryland.

“I did not expect to receive such a recognition from SAE International and it has proved that the expertise of UPM lecturer and Malaysian is recognized at international level,” he said.

He further said, he hopes by receiving this medal, it will, to some extent, help in enhancing the image of UPM and Malaysia at international level.

Earlier, he has received “Outstanding Technical Paper Award” in 2017 from Society of Automotive Engineers International Malaysia (SAE International Malaysia) and he was the first SAE Fellow from Malaysia elected in 2015. - UPM
