SERDANG, Sept 28 - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Idris Ahmad, has launched a book "Ibadah Haji dan Umrah: Persekitaran, Risiko Penyakit dan Penjagaan Kesihatan di Tanah Suci” (Hajj and Umrah: Environment, Disease Risk and Health Care in the Holy Land), published by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Senator Idris, in his speech, said the book compilation focused on the environment in the Holy Land, diet, risks, complications, types of treatment and preventive measures that are crucial for the pilgrims to ensure stable, healthy conditions when performing Hajj and Umrah.
“This book is to strengthen knowledge on personal health, to recognise the types of diseases and treatment. The content of the book will be beneficial to religion as well as personal health knowledge,” he said.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, said UPM has always been giving space and opportunities to all academics and administrative staff, including students, to produce books highlighting the diversity of genre and focus on UPM’s expertise.
"I hope many more writers among the UPM community would produce quality books for public reading as well as leading the role of disseminating knowledge to the community in this country," he said.
The authors of the book "Ibadah Haji dan Umrah: Persekitaran, Risiko Penyakit dan Penjagaan Kesihatan di Tanah Suci” are from UPM, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).
The book focused on the Fifth Pillar of Islam, which is obligatory for capable individuals, while Umrah is done by visiting Baitullah al-Haram at any time to perform specific acts of worship under specific conditions - UPM
