SERDANG, August 27 - The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has organised its inaugural opening ceremony and industry appreciation dinner of the 1st Veterinary Academia Industry Convention 2022 (VAIC 2022) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UPM, and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).

The organisation of the programme is to provide a space for discussion on veterinary-related issues and to increase stakeholders' awareness in the field.

Member of the University Board of Directors, UPM, Dato' Sri Jailani Johari, said the programme was based on the field of veterinary science and opened a meeting and discussion space for all parties to find new solutions and discoveries in the development of the veterinary field.

"The process of research translation and knowledge transfer between academics and industry ensures that innovation and the resulting research findings become more significant in line with the latest technological developments," he said.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) said this industry-oriented programme is in line with the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025, in which the transformation of agricultural management, including the veterinary field, must be in line with the latest technological developments.

"As a pioneer university in the veterinary field, this programme provides a new medium to catalyse this effort among stakeholders," he said.

VAIC 2022 Chairman, Prof. Gs. Ts. Dr. Faez Firdaus Jesse Abdullah said the programme became a meeting ground for 370 participants, including academics, government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the industry in the veterinary field.

"This two-day convention not only featured keynote and plenary speakers from leading experts in the veterinary field but also featured presenters among academics, researchers and young scientists from UPM and UMK.

"This is to share research findings including case studies in animal production, pets, veterinary clinical case studies, public health and zoonotic diseases," he said.

Meanwhile, the presentation of appreciation awards to sponsors of FPV, UPM and UMK was held as a token of the faculty's appreciation to the industry that has contributed a lot and supported the faculty in making the agenda of student excellence a success. - UPM
