UPM volunteers help flood victims in Kota Tinggi

KOTA TINGGI, 9 MARCH – A total of 23 volunteers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) were mobilised to assist and distribute flood aid to flood victims in Kampung Kelantan and Kampung Mawai, Kota Tinggi, Johor, in the post-flood relief mission here, today.

The head of the volunteer team who is also the Director of Co-curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP) UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omrah Hassan @ Hussin said his team departed for Johor at 11.30 last night.

“We interacted with 99 villagers and one UPM student, Alia Nasuha, a first-year student from the Faculty of Engineering, UPM, also a victim of the recent flood in Kota Tinggi.”

“Other than cleaning the affected areas, we also distributed food necessity baskets to the flood victims here.”

“We are thankful that we distributed 100 Bakul Rahmah to the affected victims. The village head of Kampung Kelantan and the Special Officer from Parliament, YB Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin were also present during the distribution of Bakul Rahmah to the victims,” he said.

He also hopes that the help provided will lessen the flood victims’ burden at both affected locations.

He said this mission also received cooperation from the University Islamic Centre, Centre for Management of Waqf and Endowment (WAZAN), Student Affairs Division, Alumni Relations Centre, Pendeta Za’ba College, PUTRA International Centre (i-Putra) and UPM Student Representative Council (MPP). -UPM
