Winning two MGAP awards overwhelmed UPM lecturer

SERDANG, May 30 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) lecturer of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Ir Dr  Mohd Sapuan Salit did not expect to win two awards at the Gemilang Akademia Putra (MGAP) 2016 recently.

He won a Vice-Chancellor Fellowship Award (Research and Innovation) in two categories - Excellent Researcher and Journal Publication awards.

He said he was grateful and humbled by the accolades he received as the last time he won such an award was for the year 2008.

In the past, he said he had won five such awards – Excellent Researcher Award 2005, Excellent Research Award 2007, Vice-Chancellor Fellowship Award 2008, Excellent Researcher Award (Special International Award), and Excellent Researcher Award 2008 (Publication Incentive Award).

“I am grateful to be able to continue to contribute towards the university. Thanks to UPM for the awards given, "he said.

He added that he conducted a research in the field of design and composite materials since 1993 in a variety of industrial applications including automotive, marine, furniture and agriculture.

The journal entitled 'Carbohhydrate Polymers' featured development and characterization of a bi-layered environmental-friendly sugar palm starch and poly lactic acid (PLA). - UPM
