SERDANG, April 12 - The Department of Government and Civilisation Studies, Faculty of Human Ecology (FEM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with Multaqa Asatizah and Du'at have organised a knowledge transfer project by distributing waqf books entitled "The Early Life of Muallaf in Fiqh Muallaf" to the new Muslim converts (muallaf).

The community network project is also one way for dakwah organisations to reach out to the muallaf group.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations), Prof. Ir. Dr. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, said the programme is a noble effort of the FEM, UPM, which brought together various dakwah agencies from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government bodies.

"An effort like this must be doubled. In addition to disseminating knowledge, we also use our expertise to invite more agencies to collaborate with us, "he said.

Project director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ku Hasnita Ku Samsu, said the university is an agent in imparting knowledge to students and the community. The initiative to share information with the community, especially the muallaf group, emerged from UPM lecturers' writings.

“The books were distributed to representatives of selected dakwah organisations in Malaysia to be allocated to muallaf under their responsibility and also to be used in guidance programmes and lectures with the muallaf group.

“I hope this effort will remain and become a networking activity that will benefit UPM lecturers. The community also can get to know UPM directly as well as the experts here,”he said.

Book author, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nidzam Abdul Kadir said the book contributes to muallaf to help facilitate their affairs and act as a guide and reference on matters related to Islam.

He is also a senior lecturer at the Department of Government and Civilisation Studies, FEM, UPM, said the book did not focus on the law, but more on the mandatory questions muallaf needs to know. - UPM
