UPM’s Physics Department celebrates student achievements virtually

SERDANG, Dec 17 – The Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has collaborated with the Physics Student Club (KMF) to celebrate 117 undergraduate and postgraduate students who had shown grit and determination by obtaining excellent academic results in the 2020/2021 academic session. The event was held virtually.

The Physics Students Academic Excellence Appreciation Ceremony (MAKeF) 2021 is an annual award ceremony held to recognise students who achieve an excellent CGPA each semester.

The ceremony was festive with the presence of almost all the members of the Physics Department and their families through the Zoom application and the dedicated Facebook page, "Physics Student Club" (KMF) UPM.

The awards presented this year were the Academic Excellence Award, the Head of Department Special Award, the Graduate Research Publication Award, the Adisiswa Physics Award, and the Professor Sidek Ab Aziz Award.

Head of the Physics Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suriati Paiman, hoped the students from the department would be able to plan out their academic and co-curricular strategies in an orderly manner to realise their dreams and those of their parents and lecturers.

Meanwhile, the recipient of both the Professor Sidek Ab Aziz Award and the Adisiswa Physics Award, Habibuzzikri Ajeman, said he was immensely grateful for the awards and was certainly surprised to receive two awards at the ceremony.

He also shared his experiences and tips in balancing academics and co-curricular activities.

In the meantime, Prof. Dr. Sidek Hj Abdul Aziz, a sponsor of MAKeF 2021, expressed his appreciation to the students of the Physics Department for successfully organising the ceremony.

He also made a surprise gesture by sponsoring Habibuzzikri Ajeman, winner of the Professor Sidek Ab Aziz Award, a free stay at Denai Desa for 3 days and 2 nights.

MAKef 2021 director, Nur Aeisa Sofea Noor Azimi, a second-year student of Bachelor of Science in Physics with Education (Hons), said she was very proud of the students' accomplishments from the students Physics Department who had continued to excel despite the global pandemic.

"The objective of MAKeF this year was to inspire students from the Physics Department to achieve excellence consistently throughout the year," she said.

Also ensuring the event's success was the executive committee led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yap Wing Fen as the advisor and Dr. Muhammad Khairul Adib Muhammad Yusof as the chairman. - UPM
