UPM welcomes 3,553 new bachelor students for 2022/2023 academic session

SERDANG October 5 – A total of 3,553 new Bachelor programme students, consisting of 1,116 male and 2,437 female students, will be registering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for the 2022/2023 academic session today and tomorrow.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Dato’ Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said of that number, a total of 84 Bachelor’s students will be registering at the UPM Bintulu campus, Sarawak. He said UPM also received 80 national athletes who have participated in the SEA Games and SUKMA, with the majority of whom were hockey, rugby and athletics athletes.

"Among the athletes registered was Kirandeep Kaur, the champion of the World Hockey Series Singapore 2018, third place in the 2019 Olympic Qualifier in Ireland and participated in the Women’s Hockey, Junior World Cup in April 2022.

"She will enrol in the Doctor of Medicine programme at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences,” he said at the press conference during the UPM Perkasa Putra Week, 2022/2023 session here today.

He added that UPM also introduced a new Bachelor of Technology in Smart Agriculture with Honours programme at the Faculty of Agriculture, which was offered to 20 students.

In this admission session, UPM was involved in the special pathway programme, the Siswa Sulung Keluarga Malaysia Development Programme (SULUNG), by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

“This programme is offered to ten students from B40 families who are excellent and firstborn of the family to enter university at the bachelor’s degree level successfully. 

“UPM will provide sponsorship and a mentoring programme to ensure the chosen ten students excel in their studies which will, in turn, earn them employment,” he said.
