UPM signs an MoU with Kuala Langat Member of Parliament

SERDANG, Sept 4 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Member of Parliament for Kuala Langat, Dr. Xavier Jayakumar, as a collaboration platform between UPM and Kuala Langat community.

Under the MoU, UPM and the Member of Parliament for Kuala Langat would cooperate through the sharing of expertise and knowledge, research and collaboration.

Among the projects are Professor on Duty or Smart Mathematics Programme, the manufacturing of a fully automated pineapple leaf fibre extraction machine, and the production of Yankee pineapple blocks.

The collaboration will also help INTROP to extend its research and explore new bioresources in Kuala Langat district.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris, said the sharing and collaboration would support the rapid development of the university and help UPM to stay competitive and relevant in the industry and country.

Dr. Xavier Jayakumar said the programme, which was academic in nature, would benefit youths in Kuala Langat, especially in increasing their understanding in Mathematics while the community would benefit from the sharing of expertise and knowledge, particularly in the field of forestry and timber from INTROP. - UPM
