SERDANG, March 9 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has recorded a proud achievement when it leaped 28 places and listed at the 78th rank of the best universities compared to the 106th rank last year in the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2021.

This placed UPM in the Top 100 group along with two other local universities out of the 606 international universities listed.

The rankings assessment uses five main criteria in which there are 13 similar indicators used in assessing the THE World University Rankings. These five main criteria are Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (20%), International Outlook (10%) and Industry Income (10%).

UPM's strength lies in the International Outlook criteria when it ranked 23rd best among the listed universities and ranked 2nd in Malaysia after Universiti Malaya.

The THE Emerging Economies Rankings, which was introduced in 2014, takes into account and evaluates institutions of higher learning in 48 countries defined by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as developing or emerging countries (“Advanced Emerging”, “Secondary Emerging” or “Frontier”).
