SERDANG, July 4 – The Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) together with three international universities, namely, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), Thailand, Tatung University, Taiwan, and Telkom University, Indonesia, as well as 17 local companies, collaborated to organise the International Sustainable, Environmental, Exploration, and Design (SEED) Showcase 2023 to showcase the role of Industrial Design to the community.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic dan International), UPM, Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail, said the exhibition was in line with Goal 1 of UPM’s 2021-2025 Strategic Plan:  Create the Character of Graduate Resistance to Facing Upcoming Challenges.

“This can also promote student design and give our young designers a platform to be introduced to public and private organisations and build a network with international universities that will be beneficial to all,” he said.

Director of International SEED Showcase 2023, Muhammad Nazrin Ramlan said a total of 39 prototype projects (FYP) by Final Year students of Bachelor of Industrial Design, Industrial Design Department, FRSB UPM were exhibited today.

“The exhibition was organised and run entirely by students, providing exposure to students and producing current designs using recyclable materials to maintain environmental sustainability,” he said.

Deputy Dean for Research and Academic Services, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pibool Waijittragum said the exhibition offers an opportunity to SSRU students to collaborate with and have an interchange of expertise with UPM.

“I hope that the cooperation with FRSB UPM will continue in the future and that it can increase international networking for our benefit,” he said.

In addition, this final-year project is under the joint coordination and supervision of Ts. Dr. Saiful Hasley Ramli, Ts. Dr. Rosalam Che Me, and Dr. Sazrinee Zainal Abidin.

Each student is supervised specifically by several supervisors consisting of Prof. CIDe Ts Dr. Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd. Rahman, YM Prof. Madya Dr. Raja Ahmad Azmeer Raja Ahmad Effendi, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Nazlina Shaari, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Hassan Hj. Alli, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rizal Abdul Rahman, Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrizal Dolah, Ts. Dr. Velu A/L Perumal, Ts. Dr. Khairul Manami Kamarudin, Ts. Shahrul Azman Shahbuddin, Dr. Mohd Faiz Yahaya, Dr.Siti Mastura Md. Ishak and Indastri Saion.

Meanwhile, the exhibition themed ‘Enhancing Customization Through Circular Design' is taking place for three days, from 4 to 6 July, at the Galeri Serdang, FRSB UPM. – UPM
