NILAI, October 19 – The Registrar's Office, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has organised the Hands of Hopes programme with Peer Mentors (PPS) and Form 1 Prefect at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Ahmad Manaf, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, to contribute knowledge transfer, expertise and community service.

The programme is part of the community programme series held by the Intervention Services Section, UPM Registrar’s Office, in collaboration with Putra®|Bakti, sponsored by Kao (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and the Soap of Hope from the Institute of Bioscience (IBS), UPM.

Head of Intervention Services Section, UPM Registrar’s Office, Siti Fatimah Abdul Ghani, said the programme aimed to engage students with various expressive activities, especially transferring knowledge to the community.

“This approach is in line with the role of Putra®|Bakti that focused on the university's niche while providing opportunities for the university community to share their expertise and community service,” she said.

Programme Facilitator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Aqlima Ahmad, also the recipient of the Young Polar Scientist Medal, said the programme helped school students acquire new knowledge.

“As a facilitator of the programme, I want to inspire school students about the South Pole in Antarctica, which is related to animals and how to maintain the sustainability of our environment,” she said.

Evening Senior Assistant of Sekolah Kebangsaan, Dato’ Ahmad Manaf, Salmah Abdul Rahim, said the programme is good for school students to provide them with learning experiences beyond the classroom and current knowledge development.

“I hope this sort of programme will continue, and I wish to thank UPM for sharing knowledge and experience like this, which are essential for school students apart from learning in a classroom with a teacher,” she said.

Meanwhile, Putra®|Bakti increases the awareness of social responsibility and soft skills among the UPM community and is a step in UPM’s efforts to implement the Ihsan agenda by strengthening the culture of being courteous, tolerant and caring in developing human capital.
