UPM, MTIB organise Bumiputera Wood and Wood Carving Entrepreneurship Seminar in Post-Pandemic Era 2022 to Share Expertise to Assist Entrepreneurs in Wood Sector

SERDANG, June 8 – The Faculty of Forestry and Environment (FPAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, and the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) has organised the Bumiputera Wood and Wood Carving Entrepreneurship Seminar in the Post-Pandemic Era 2022 to share expertise and assist wood sector entrepreneurs. 

UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd. Roslan Sulaiman, said UPM is always ready to assist Bumiputera wood entrepreneurs to highlight their potential and performance.

“UPM has expertise in the Department of Wood and Fibre Industries, FPAS. The department has experience not only in the field of entrepreneurship but also various aspects of wood and fibre industries which I am certain would benefit wood entrepreneurs,” he said.

He added that sharing knowledge and expertise could boost the ecosystem of cooperation, providing beneficial returns to all parties.

“The seminar aims to disseminate the latest information on the achievements of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the wood and carving sectors as well as discuss issues faced and formulate improvements to develop entrepreneurship in this industry,” he said. 

His speech was read by the Dean of FPAS, UPM, Prof. Dr. Hazandy Abdul Hamid. 

MTIB Director General, Tn. Hj. Mahpar Atan, said it is hoped the seminar would benefit the participants and produce positive results for the benefit of the wood industry, including wood carving, which is synonymous with Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

“I, MTIB, through the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Division, have implemented various programmes and activities and provided incentives to increase Bumiputera in the country’s wood industry,” he said.

Also present were the Deputy Director General (Management and Operations), MTIB, Tn. Hj. Kamaruzaman Othman, and Head of Department of the Wood and Fibre Industries, FPAS, UPM, Prof. Dr. Jegatheswaran Ratnasingam.

Meanwhile, Tn. Hj. Mahpar Atan also launched a book entitled “Apresasi Buku Keusahawan” (Entrepreneurship Book Appreciation) published by UPM in collaboration with MTIB.

The seminar is a continuation of the Bumiputera entrepreneurship programme in the wood sector since 2018 by the Department of Wood and Fibre Industries, FPAS, along with other strategic partners. - UPM
