UPM is world’s Top 34, 4th in Asia in UI-Greenmetric Rankings

SERDANG, Dec 30 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is listed as the world’s top 34 university by UI-Greenmetric World University Ranking 2016 based on its campus sustainability and environmental management efforts.

UPM is ranked fourth in Asia, second in South East Asia and first in Malaysia in the rating by UI-Greenmetric World University Ranking, the announcement of which was carried in its website yesterday.

The rating has attracted a total of 516 universities from 74 countries.

The rating is the only ranking that measures the commitment of each university in developing its environmental-friendly infrastructure.

The environmental sustainability rating covers six main categories - green statistics (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water consumption (10%), transportation (18%) and education (18%).

Commenting on the rankings, UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said the success indicated UPM’s commitment towards conservation and preservation of the environment which had been regularly conducted through various activities of teaching, research, curriculum programmes and quality management system based on effective environmental management.

Universities based in the United States and Europe dominate the top five rankings, with University of California Davis in the first place, followed by University of Nottingham, Wageningen University & Research, University of Connecticut and Oxford University.
