PUTRA-MAKNA  Run 2016 Organizing Committee Chairman, Prof. Dr. Rozita Rosli said the event also helped to promote UPM-MAKNA Cancer Research Laboratory at IBS as the laboratory for scientists to carry out experimentation and fact-finding fieldwork on cancer.

“UPM has gathered and utilized various resources in its effort to understand and control this disease. We have made known the outcomes or findings of research by our researchers and the services offered at the centre to educate the people,” she said.

She also said cancer remained the common cause of death worldwide, including in Malaysia. “As the cause of cancer is still not known in detail, therefore, prevention is better than care.

“It harms and attacks people regardless of age, sex and race and patients undergoing cancerous treatment will suffer from other ailments, too. It is hoped that we will be able to find a better method to treat cancer patients through the research carried out at the laboratory,” she said.

At the event, Higher Education Minister, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh flagged off some 1,250 runners under the 5km and 7km run, who comprised of civil servants, staff of private companies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), witnessed by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris, Yakult Malaysia Sale and Marketing Director, Hiroshi Hamada and Tan Sri Mohammad Tajol Rosli.
