UPM holds Duta Jauhar 3.0 Fertigation Workshop to assist Mersing villagers

MERSING - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) initiated a fertigation workshop, called Duta Jauhar 3.0 for about 30 villagers in Kampung Sawah Dato’, Mersing Johor, to highlight a Mersing project, Agriculture Transformation Scheme (MATS) that uses fertigation methods to plant  Centil chilies.

MATS Director of Project, Ahmad Sofwan Abdul Razak said the main target was to  get low-income villagers and those e-kasih participants to take part in the project.

“Among the main objectives of Duta Jauhar UPM 3.0 is to introduce this MATS project to help generate income for the community in Mersing and to respond to the idea by Johor Menteri Besar for us to join hands with UPM students as the agents of transformation of the society to carry out this project,” he said.



He added that through the workshop, villagers were able to understand more about planting of centil chilies and the advantages of being involved in such an agriculture activity.
 
“At the same time, UPM students also have the opportunity to be together with the villagers in running this fertigation workshop which is organized by Duta Jauhar UPM 3.0  group,” he said.


He also said the workshop which took about one month to prepare was held with the cooperation of Tenglu Subdistrict headman, Adam Ahmad, also known as Tok Adam and Kapung Sawah village head, Dato’, Hanafiah Junid.

The two-day workshop was moderated by UPM Lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Aisyah Hassan, and the faculty’s Community Industry Network officer, Muhd Ghazali Satar. – UPM.
