UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr.Aini Ideris said the MoU showcased the university’s commitment in the effort to meet the country’s demand for research and development in the fields of gerontology and geriatric ageing.

“IPPM has spearheaded the initiatives to conduct ‘multidisciplinary’ and ‘interdisciplinary’ researches associated with old age and ageing to improve the quality of life of senior citizens in Malaysia,” she said at the signing of the MoU which was also attended by INIA Director, Dr. Marvin Formosa.

IPPM Director, Prof. Tengku Aizan Hamid, said cooperation between all parties involved in the MoU was one of the institute’s efforts to form a tactical action based on the needs of  Research Universities (RU).

"This partnership adds value to UPM and enhances strategic relationship between the university and government agencies," he said.

As a training institute which was set up in 1988, INIA provides training and education covering the area of gerontology and geriatric ageing and is also a platform for the exchange of information and ideas.

In addition to improving multidisciplinary expertise relating to ageing research, such cooperation also helps to promote the institute at the international level. – UPM.
