SERDANG, February 8 - Being concerned and aware of the importance of breakfast, especially during the final examination season, the UPM Alumni Relations Centre (ARCUPM) came forward to provide breakfast to students sitting for the Final Examination of the 2022/2023 academic session here.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Arifin Abdu, said the free breakfast distribution is a contribution from UPM alumni that will keep students filled before sitting for the examination.

“This bread and mineral water distribution will at least keep students filled to ensure they are able to sit for the examination well. We hope that students will be able to sit for the examination with ease, and thank you UPM alumni,” he said.

This breakfast distribution initiative via Buggy Putrabiz@Alumni at the Great Hall, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Arts & Cultural Centre (PKKSSAAS), is in line with Goal 1 of the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025—to produce graduates who are resilient to the challenges ahead.

In the meantime, ARCUPM director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud, said this contribution is also the outcome of collaboration with the Student Affairs Division (BHEP), UPM, and the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), UPM, beginning from 7.30 in the morning.

“We also distribute free dinner, which is a burger, at the colleges via the College Representative Council (MPK), and it will be distributed to students in their respective blocks beginning yesterday to the last day of the final examination tomorrow.

“Other than that, this initiative also highlighted the function of Buggy Putrabiz@Alumni, which is contributed by UPM alumni that benefits the students.

“We are hopeful that when the students who are currently studying become alumni in the future, they will give back to UPM and remember that when they were sitting for their examination, there were alumni who provided breakfast for them, and this will become a tradition or culture of giving,” he stated.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arba’ie Sujud, a lecturer at the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication (FBMK), said the kind effort will continue in future final examinations.

Kamalaselvi Ramesh, 23, a first-semester student of Bachelor of Human Development Science with Honours, Faculty of Human Ecology, UPM, said the breakfast distribution helped fill her up before entering the exam hall.

“When having exams in the early morning, I must rush to catch the bus, which results in not having time to buy breakfast. This bread and mineral water provided are good enough to help me sustain during the examination where hunger is usually heightened due to the stress of sitting for an examination,” she said. - UPM
