The Deputy Dean (Graduate Study Industry and Community Relations) of FPSK receives the UPM Vice-Chancellor Fellowship Award

SERDANG, May 14 – FPSK Deputy Dean (Graduate, Industrial and Community Relations), Associate Prof. Dr. Shamsul Bahri Md Tamrin received the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Vice-Chancellor Fellowship Award.  The award was presented by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at the Majlis Gemilang Akademia Putra (MGAP) 2017 here.

 

He was among 20 other lecturers and researchers who received the award, earning the top place in the Excellent Consultation category.

 

Dr. Shamsul Bahri Mohd Tamrin, 46, was acknowledged at MGAP 2017 for his achievements in conducting research and consultancy in occupational safety and health, especially in the field of ergonomics and industrial hygiene.

 

In addition to being an expert in the field of Occupational Health and Ergonomics at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, UPM and as the Deputy Dean (Graduate and Industrial and Community Relations), Dr. Shamsul Bahri is UNITEN’s Adjunct Professor and a Member of the Higher Occupational Safety and Health Board of Sunway Construction Sdn. Bhd.

 

Apart from that, he is also the President of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Malaysia, the Asia-Pacific Ergonomic Council Member, and secretary of the National Association of Occupational Safety and Health under the Malaysian Federation of Occupational Safety and Health at both National and International levels.

 

A staggering RM4.35 million worth of funds were successfully received in terms of research and consultancy relating to his expertise. A total of 101 consulting projects were carried out under the industrial networks involving Government Consultation Projects (Ministry of Human Resources, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia and MOSTI since 2006) and private sectors (Sime Darby Plantation, TNB, TM Malaysia, Samsung electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing, Murphy Oil, Petrofac, Petronas, Sabah Port, Malaysian Airline Berhad, Infineon and ASTRO.

 

In addition to his involvement in international negotiations with AL-Esnad and Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Labor, he is also involved in the preparation of the National Occupational Safety and Health Policy. To date, he is still working with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Department of Malaysia in implementing policies related to the improvement of occupational safety and health in developing countries.


His consultative research on key industrial issues and gap analysis under the Consultative Project (OSH Profile 2007) and (OSH Profile 2016) have been used in implementing government policies in the field of Occupational Safety and Health and have also set a precedent to other developing countries such as Saudi Arabia to follow the National Safety and Health model.

 

MGAP 2017 with the theme of 'Excellence and Prosperity Beyond 2025' recognises the quest for exploration and the development of knowledge and educational services that is to be divided into four categories, namely teaching, research and innovation of professional services and excellent consultants and the Putra Academia Special Award. – UPM
