SERDANG, 24 August – The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, has received the Premier Award: Royal Writer Award (Anugerah Perdana: Tokoh Penulis Diraja) at the National Book Award Ceremony today presented by UPM Pro-Chancellor, Emeritus Prof. Dato' Dr. Ir. Muhamad Zohadie Bardaie.

The published book entitled "Striving for Inclusive Development: From Pangkor to a Modern Malaysian State” was written by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

His Royal Highness said the writing of the book contained the findings of a study on the achievement of Malaysia's impressive progress based on a comprehensive analysis of the economic and social data over 150 years, starting from the Pangkor Treaty of 1874.

"The research, study and analysis of this publication took almost 20 years and involved a very challenging work process in obtaining data stored in various places, in the form of non-uniform records.

"This was followed by the process of selecting and filtering as well as coordinating and standardising the information and data collected," said Sultan Nazrin.

In addition, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said the journey to produce a book requires determination, diligence, perseverance and patience.

"The pleasure for a writer is obtained when the book produced is used as a reading material and a reference that can become a source of knowledge for the community," said His Royal Highness.

In the meantime, Sultan Nazrin said the country would create more glorious successes if every citizen was given a fair chance to enjoy the benefits of the development taking place in the country in order to create a just society.

"Malaysia's amazing achievement over the years is the result of the joint efforts of every Malaysian citizen from different races, religions and cultural backgrounds.

"This diversity should be seen as an asset that must be harmonised to build the nation's wealth by practising a culture of inclusiveness to form a strong nation that celebrates unity in diversity," said His Royal Highness.

At the event, His Royal Highness received the trophy and a certificate from the National Book Development Foundation (YPBN).

Also present were the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the University, Y.A.M Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis Dato' Seri Diraja Syed Razlan Syed Putra Jamalullail; Chairman of the Managing Board for the National Book Development Foundation (YPBN), Tan Sri Prof. Datuk Wira Dr. Abdul Latiff Abu Bakar; UPM Vice-Chancellor, YH.
