STEdex 2017 serves as a platform for FRSB lecturers to promote researches

SERDANG, May 23 – An exhibition, STEdex 2017, is seen as a platform for lecturers of the Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to promote their research applications and outcomes based on designs and architectures.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said the field of design and architecture should highlight uniqueness in order to push forward the faculty in such field and to build networks of collaborations with industry partners and other higher institutions within and outside the country.

"STEdex Exhibition is held at Serdang Gallery to pave the way for recognitions by external parties including embassies and international visitors, and this directly will increase UPM’s visibility," she said.


FRSB Dean, Assoc. Prof. LAr. Dr. Osman Mohd Tahir said the objective of STEdex was  to showcase creative works produced by UPM lecturers and students and to encourage debate on issues of public interest about designs and architectures.

"STEdex has given an impact to the faculty’s KPI and also UPM in the publication of Chapter in Books and Books for MyRA. FRSB is also trying to bring STEdex to a higher level for STEdexindexation in the Malaysia Citation Index (My Cite) as Exhibition Conference, " he said

For the event, UPM FRSB worked closely with Sime Darby Property in a verification project and management of threatened forest plants in Malaysia by producing a book "The Malaysian Rare and Threatened Tree Species Guideline" which was published by Sime Darby Property for reference by landscape architects, practitioners and students to improve conservation of biodiversity and natural heritage of Malaysia.

STEdex’17 with the theme [Re]Place aims to present new design ideas and architectures through exhibitions and it has been pioneering exhibitions based on research related to designs and architectures in the university.

The exhibition which began in 2009, has been highlighting the works of FRSB students and lecturers. Through the organization of STEdex, KPI achievement of academic officers has improved and it has also been helpful in meeting the achievement target of the faculty in the context of research. – UPM.
