Putrajaya, August 23 - The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), in collaboration with UPM Halal Products Research Institute (UPM-HPRI), has organised a regional training workshop on animal slaughter and halal certification.

The workshop began today until August 25, 2022, aiming to improve the capacity of halal professionals, practitioners, policy makers, key players, and other relevant parties in animal slaughter and halal certification.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, said this workshop would allow the exchange of knowledge and the exploration of potential collaboration and development of the halal industry in the ASEAN region.

“I am certain that the workshop takes place for three days and will be equipped with a variety of knowledge. I have confidence that this can be a good starting point for similar events on a larger scale soon through the involvement of more international joint venture partners.”

“Thank you to all our local and international participants and cooperating partners for contributing and developing the halal ASEAN industry,” he said.

Also present at the workshop were the representatives of halal researchers, academics, industry players and ministry officials from the certification body of the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Besides attending the workshop held at the Everly Hotel, Putrajaya, the participants will also engage in a practical session on animal slaughtering and meat cutting in UPM. - UPM
