ITA to establish Asian Dairy Goat Linkages

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 April – The Tropical Agriculture Institute (ITA) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will establish an Asian Dairy Goat Network sometime in July this year in order to form collaborative linkages in the dairy goat industry.

The linkages were initiated at the First Asia Dairy Goat Conference, which gathered experts from different countries to discuss issues on dairy goat farming and goat dairy- based products.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and International, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris described the proposed project as a timely  response to the increasing demand for goat dairy-based products.

“The linkages will also play a role in founding collaboration between the ‘north-south’ and ‘south-south’ countries  and members in order to improve their technical knowledge on farm management issues as well as determine the way forward for the dairy industry,” she said at the conference opening.

Held from April 9th to 12th, the conference was attended by 130 participants from 20 countries and supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Dairy Federation (IDF) and the Malaysian Veterinary Service Department (DVS).
