SERDANG, July 12 – As a first, the Putra International Centre (i-PUTRA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has collaborated with EZQurban Sdn. Bhd. to conduct the i-PUTRA ‘Ibadah Korban’ (animal sacrificial rites) 1443H programme at UPM.

Approximately 1,200 packages of sacrificial meat were distributed to international students and the local community.

i-PUTRA Director, Prof. Dr. Suhaimi Ab Rahman, said the programme aimed to bring i-PUTRA UPM and international students at UPM closer and hoped the students gain experience of how the Muslim community in Malaysia conducts the sacrifice.

"We found that international students are very excited and proud because they have been given the opportunity to be with the i-PUTRA family to carry out qurban activities, and we want to bridge the gap between i-PUTRA and the international community," he said.

UPM international student, Ali Mohammed Baba, said he was excited to follow the programme because he gained new experience in handling the distribution of sacrificial meat in Malaysia.

"I am happy to see UPM staff and international students working together to successfully distribute the sacrificial meat to those in need and hope that this programme will be continued by UPM in the future," he said.

UPM international students are from the Middle East, Nigeria and Asia.

In addition, the programme was attended by 20 i-PUTRA staff and several staff from the Centre of Responsibility (PTJ), as well as five representatives of the Malaysian Armed Forces and UPM international students.

Also present were UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail and UPM Registrar, Muhazam Mansor. - UPM
