Faculty of Agriculture, UPM, collaborates with Muar District Office to increase rice production

Muar, August 9 – His Royal Highness the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, has attended the Bersama Rakyat programme in Sungai Balang, Muar, and was briefed on rice cultivation using new technology.

Researchers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), were invited to provide a briefing on the importance of paddy field conservation and acidic soil treatment in the paddy fields in Sungai Balang, Muar.

The UPM delegation was led by  Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir Shamsuddin and joined by Prof. Dato’ Abdul Shukor Juraimi, Prof. Dr. Anjas Asmara Samsudin, together with four lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, UPM (Dr. Mohd Firdaus Mohd Anuar, Dr. Roslan Ismail, Dr. Syaharudin Zaibon and Dr. Elisa Azura Azman).

The Faculty of Agriculture, UPM, has an active collaboration with Muar District Office to help increase rice production and the socio-economy of the rice farmers’ community here.

Meanwhile, the location was selected as a case study for reporting the National Food Resource Area Land Use Planning Study under the Department of Town and Country Planning (PLAN Malaysia) in assessing the importance of cultivating agricultural lands for the purpose of National Food Security. – UPM
