Best Wishes for a Happy New Year 2019

Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and peace be upon you.

Dear all UPM staff,

We are now at the threshold of 2019. At this time of year, we will start to realise how fast the time has flies. Alhamdulillah, let us together express our gratitude to Allah SWT that because of His grace, we are still in this green campus, being given good health, the strength and inspiration to continue serving and contributing to this beloved university.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)'s large family of staff, students, including alumni, retirees and UPM’s stakeholders, has played a major role in ensuring UPM's continuous excellence. Most of UPM’s achievements can be seen in various electronic and social media platforms. We can be rest assured that every one of you has played the role of WITH KNOWLEDGE WE SERVE to make UPM so much visible.
We must continue to push the function and role of the university as a knowledge centre in boosting excellence. Knowledge must be communicated and shared for the benefit of the community and capable in elevating one’s intellectual and emotional capacity while balancing the demands of the hereafter. I believe due to the utmost love for our work, we will all be eager to achieve further excellence for UPM, the society and country well-being, Insha Allah.

With the inculcation of IHSAN values as a cornerstone of excellence, let us face 2019 with more enthusiasm. Together, we will strive to place our university in the world's top 200 universities in line with PG200.

However, in the face of uncertainty due to the global economic turndown, we certainly will face so many challenges. As we all know, over the last few years, there has been a budget cut-off due to the lack of funding from the government for the university’s management and operations. Alas, all through these years, we have managed to sustain the financial management of the university. We have come up with strategic steps and efforts to reduce our dependence on government funds. UPM is also seriously taking steps to generate more income for the university. I hope the citizens of UPM will continue to spend cautiously in line with the reduction of the university’s financial allocations.

Finally, thanks to all the UPM staff who have been working hard together and devoting so much of their time all throughout 2018 for the success of UPM. I believe with the continuous contribution of ideas, energy and creativity from all parties, UPM will be able to excel better in 2019. Well done and congratulations to all! I pray that all of us will  be given good health and abundance of guidance from Allah SWT.

Happy New Year 2019.
