A Total of 3,477 New Students of the 2018/2019 Session Recite the Pledge

SERDANG, 12 Sept – A total of 3,477 new students of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bachelor’s programmes, Semester 1, 2018/2019 session recited the new student pledge in front of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini Ideris.

 

The pledge taking ceremony was led by Muhd Syahmi Sal Azizi, student of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Petroleum Chemistry, Faculty of Science during the UPM Perkasa Putra Week programme here.

 

Muhd Syahmi handed over the text of the pledge to Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini.

 

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Mohd Iqbal Saripan; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations), Prof. Dato’ Dr. –Ing. Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus.    

 

At the ceremony, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini urged the students to respect each other and focus on their main purpose of going to university.

 

“I also hope all of you will practise a healthy lifestyle and stay away from any unhealthy activities or get-rich-quick schemes,” she said. 

 

Meanwhile, UPM introduced the use of virtual card for student identification starting with new students of the 2008/2019 session to replace the existing student card.

 

Each student will use a smartphone application (for Android and IOS) and a web desktop, known as PUTRA® Virtual ID (PUTRA®VID), to show identity when using the campus facilities. Among the use of a Virtual ID include access to the application of information and communication technology (ICT) and the infrastructure, attendance, and university student identity verification.
