The event was officiated by Deputy Education Minister, P. Kamalanathan, on December 5, 2015.

Themed ‘Siswa@Kampung’, the adoption programme was held every semester by PKPP UPM where 14 Teams and 22 Kursus Bakti Siswa took part, under the guidance of two facilitators.

It was held with the cooperation of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK).

The students took the opportunity to share and exchange their knowledge with Kampung Fajar villagers.

Various community activities were held for three days and two nights, involving the participation of villagers from all walks of life and ages. There were talks on smart consumers to instill awareness on consumers’ rights and responsibilities and alternative measures to minimize their daily spending.

In giving back to the community, UPM Bakti Siswa students were also involved in mural programs, gotong royong and planting of trees for landscaping purposes.

The presence of the students enabled them to mingle with the society and foster closer relationship through activities such as sports, religious talks and cultural performances which were held on the second day.

The program also provided hands-on experiences and exposure to students in mustering soft skills which were needed as an added value in facing challenges once they were employed. – UPM.
