UPM supports athlete to excel in sports and academic simultaneously

SERDANG, 4 May - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will constantly pursuing excellence with an emphasis on the foundation provided for its students to continue their quest to engage in sports.

 

UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr Aini Ideris said the university has a long tradition of placing sports as among its  highest priorities, and supported the athletes in realizing their vision to achieve sporting and academic excellence simultaneously.  

 

“The academic system in UPM is very sensitive to the challenges faced by an athlete, especially time management to attend intensive training, as well as the obligation to complete course work, attend lectures and so on.

 

“UPM Academic System provides flexibility in the number of credits enrolled by the student per semester, and provides the Learning Management System and Putra Blast system which allow overseas based athletes to obtain all lecture materials online,” she said at the Distinguished Lecture Series delivered by Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president, Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, here.

 

Prof Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr Aini said UPM also provide special residential college, known as the "MSN Block" to place all athletes under one roof, with the required facilities.

 

She also said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UPM and the National Sports Council (MSN) also helped in highlighting athletes in academic and sports.

 

Some 250 people from the sporting fraternity including undergraduates and lecturers of universities, teachers training institutes, former and current national athletes and sports administrators attended the lecture. - UPM
