SERDANG, Dec 30 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) will donate cash and send nine tons of supplies in three trucks to the affected flood victims in the first phase of its aid campaign starting this week.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mad Nasir Shamsudin, said the supplies will be delivered in several stages starting today until January 2 to the Military Operations Centre at the Subang Air Base, Shah Alam.
"UPM will also send the supplies to the collection centre run by the Ministry of Education at Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP)," he said at the launch of the ‘Bantuan 3D UPM: Derma, Doa and Dorongan’ (3D UPM Aid: Donations, Prayers And Encouragement) campaign, while assisting the loading process here.
He said all the supplies such as clothings, daily essentials, food and cash, were donated by UPM staff and students.
"Besides raising money, the 3D campaign also encourages UPM community to perform prayers, Yasin recitation and general volunteers, counselors as well as religious officers will be dispatched to help the flood victims who are in need of their services.
"We will send about 400 volunteers among UPM staff and students in 10 buses to help the victims.
"This campaign will be continued with its second phase next week and we will keep going until the flood situations in the country are fully recovered," he said.
At meanwhile, Chairman of Bantuan 3D, Prof. Dr. Mansor Hj Ahmad @ Ayob said the public can also make donations at two UPM 3D Relief Collection Centres located at the Experimental Theatre, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Arts and Cultural Centre (PKSAAS), from 9am to 5pm, and UPM Mosque from 6pm to 9pm, which run daily until the flood situations improve.
Also helping Prof. Mad Nasir, were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohammad Shatar Sabran, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) Prof. Dr. Ing-. Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo and UPM Registrar, Dato' Wan Azman Wan Omar.
