KOREA – University Putra Malaysia (UPM) Faculty of Design And Architecture Lecturer, Prof. Dr. Khairul Aidil Azlin Abd Rahman, walked away with a Special Prize for a “Nest Chair” design submitted at the Korean Society of Design Science (KSDS) International Invitation Exhibition 2016.

The “Nest Chair” was inspired from a bird’s nest which formed the habitat for the bird to nest and protect its chicks.

The design of the chair injected a novelty in maintaining traditional elements in the use of mengkuang (screw pine leaves) and suitable metal materials to suit with modern time.

The chair highlighted a composition that supported the entire body to sit comfortably and the use of natural materials which combined both modern and contemporary designs.

A total of 154 entries from 11 countries, including USA, Germany, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Korea submitted their design concepts and designs in the exhibition. – UPM.
