KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wong Mui Yun who lectures at the Department of Plant Protection, Agriculture Faculty in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), received a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award 2016-2017 from the United States’ Deputy Head of Delegation, Edgard D. Kagan, at the Office of Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE).
She received an award certificate and fellowship sponsorship to conduct a short-term research at the University of California Riverside in the United States of America for four months, beginning September 2016.
Dr. Wong is known for her expertise is in the field of Plant Pathology and Biotechnology. Her focus is on researching the diagnosis of several plant diseases, biological control and plant molecular pathology, especially in the interaction of host-pathogen in palm oil trees, fruits and vegetables.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) was established in 1963 as a bi-national commission for both Malaysia and the United States to promote educational exchanges between the two countries.
Malaysian Fulbright Scholar Program provides an opportunity for Malaysian academicians to develop and update their research by interacting with their reputable and renowned colleagues in the USA.
By providing a mechanism and support for meetings and interactions with American renowned scholars, this programme is also aimed at promoting dialogues of mutual interest between Malaysia and the USA. - UPM
