UPM Forestry Faculty to co-chair Asia Pacific Forestry steering committee

SERDANG, Nov 20 -  The Forestry Faculty of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has been picked as the co-chairman for the Steering Committee in the Asia-Pacific Forestry Education Coordination Mechanism for five years, beginning 2016 till 2020.

The appointment was made during a General Assembly Forestry College Deans Meeting Mechanism Asia Pacific Region in APFNet at the World Forestry Congress in Durban, South Africa, on September 9 which was also attended by UPM Dean of Forestry Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Zakaria Hussin.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Zakaria said the main objective of the organization was to promote forestry education among Asia-Pacific countries.

“It is hoped that the appointment will help to highlight UPM, in general, and the Forestry Faculty, in particular, to the whole world” he said.

Meanwhile, APFNet Secretariat Executive Director, Qu Guilin, in his congratulatory letter to UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, said he on behalf of APFNet valued UPM’s continuous support to the body.

He said strong support from UPM will enable efforts on forestry education by Asia-Pacific Forestry Education Coordination Mechanism to be introduced in a more effective manner and widely disseminated in the region. – UPM
