UPM bags 6 gold, two silver, one bronze at ITEX 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) won six gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal at the 32nd International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2021 held hybrid at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), on 13 and 14 December.

The gold medals were received by Prof. Dr. Lim Hong Ngee from the Faculty of Science through the Grafin Tok™ innovation; Prof. Dr. Syafinaz Amin Nordin (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) Putra Amazing Agar; Prof. Dr. Vijayaletchumy Subramaniam (Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication) Giant Dice Techniques remuneration; Prof. Dr. Osumanu Haruna Ahmed (UPM Bintulu Campus) Promising Crop Yields from Productive Soil; Ts. Dr. Mohd Salahuddin Mohd Basri (Faculty of Engineering) GeoCoat-A Novel Fire Retardant Coating Based on Agricultural Waste; and Dr. Fadhil Syukri (Faculty of Agriculture) FS Feed for Life Food Replacement in the Aquaculture Industry.

Grafin Tok™ is an innovation that uses graphene as a key component in producing engine oil, which improves engine performance and significantly reduces the emission of HC, CO & NO by 90%.

It can also revive the engine with less sound and vibration and is 10% more effective for smoother, quieter driving.

ITEX is a prestigious international exhibition of innovations held annually, organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS) and C.I.S that provides the platform and market for the latest innovations and ideas globally.

ITEX 2021 was themed on re-creation and focused on current issues of the COVID-19 pandemic facing societies and economies around the world.

More than 500 innovations from 15 countries, including Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, participated in ITEX 2021.

UPM showcased innovation and technology in the fields of agriculture, medicine, health sciences, engineering, social sciences and biotechnology.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, who attended the Malam Budaya Cipta ITEX 2021 (Celebration of Creativity Banquet), said UPM continued its excellence by winning medals for all nine innovations submitted.
