UPM and One FM organise 'oneFM Go Green Campaign' supporting Earth Hour 2015

SERDANG, March 28 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with Radio One FM Sdn Bhd (oneFM) organised the planting of 500 fruit trees programme around Dusun Contoh (fruit grove) area in conjunction with the 'oneFM Go Green Campaign' and Earth Hour 2015 here.

Among the fruit trees planted were among the rare species of rambutan, sapodilla and tampoi.

Head of Radio Networks Brand and Advertising Media Prima Berhad, Fara Aida Dahlan said, the programme was aimed at fostering awareness to ensure that the environment was constantly protected by the community.

"This is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) with regards to environmental issues, which are worsening at present.



"At first we ran the campaign by airing this programme on oneFM radio and it took us almost two weeks to make the selection and gather volunteers who signed up online," she said.

She added, UPM became the primary choice to be the venue for the programme due to its well-equipped facility and it was also in line with the university’s aspiration in emphasising on-campus green activities.



"This is the beginning of good collaboration between Media Prima Radio Networks and UPM and we look forward to working again with UPM on other CSR activities," she affirmed.

OneFM is a Chinese-language radio station under the Media Prima Radio Networks, which began airing in January 2009.

Also present at the programme were UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, oneFM DJ’s - Nicholas, Yin Yin, Angelina, Wayne, William, Kian, also 8TV artists - Bernard, Wind Natalie, Dennis and singer duo Fuying & Sam.

Meanwhile, a first year student from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Banumathy Gunasegaran, 20, said the programme gave her new experience through her participation.



"I am happy to participate in this programme because it provides me with knowledge on how trees are planted correctly and I hope such a programme will continue here," she said. - UPM
