SERDANG, Oct. 31 - University Putra Malaysia (UPM) is ranked 54th in the Best Global Universities Rankings for Agricultural Sciences by the US News and World Report which was published recently.
The latest rating encompassed overall research by the institutions, regional and global reputation, research performances using publication indicator, number of academic staff and Ph.D graduates.
There were eight main indicators for the subject rankings; global research reputation, reputation of regional research, publications, normalized citation impact, total citations, number of highly cited papers, percentage of highly cited papers, and international collaboration.
UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan (pictured), said the success was the best UPM Agricultural Sciences achievement, thus it would boost UPM academic reputation globally.
"The field of agriculture is a UPM niche area and the whole UPM community is having a sense of pride in the achievement which was obtained through the passion and commitment in promoting the knowledge that has also put UPM among the best in the world," he said.
Best Global Universities Rankings has listed the world’s top five universities for Agricultural Sciences; Wageningen University and Research Center, University of California - Davis, Cornell University, China Agricultural University and the Universidade de Sao Paulo.
Based on the rating, UPM is ranked the best in the South East Asian region and the seventh best in Asia, where the five others are from China and another from Taiwan.
Previously, UPM managed to maintain its best performance in the QS World University Rankings for two consecutive years after successfully being ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in the fields of agriculture, forestry and education.
