Students from 5 HEIs organise Kongsi Rezeki Programme with Asnaf Muallaf, Asnaf Yatim

SERDANG, Dec 20 - A coalition of students from five universities have joined forces with YOSHMyFundAction to provide assistance and distribute the basic necessities of Rezeki Ummat and Hidayah Gift Box to Asnaf Yatim (underprivileged orphans) and Asnaf Muallaf (underprivileged Muslim converts).

The distribution was carried out at the Al-Hidayah Tahfiz Centre (ATAH) with the support and cooperation from YOSHMyFundAction, Nur Hidayah Welfare and Care Organisation and Halo Telco Sdn Bhd, which participated in the handover.

The Kongsi Rezeki (Sharing of Sustenance) handover session is a programme aimed at supporting the development campaign of the Tahfiz Centre for Children with Special Needs and Autism organised by the students of the Volunteerism Development Course, Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

With a clear understanding of the campaign’s objectives, student volunteers under the purview of YOSHMyFundAction from the Universiti Malaya (UM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), and Murni International College (MIC) were also called to participate in the Kongsi Rezeki programme.

Managing Director of Halo Telco Sdn Bhd, Mohd Syukrie, said more programmes as such should be organised among student volunteers to ensure that prospective graduates have a high level of compassion and empathy towards the community.

A total of 44 Rezeki Ummat (RU) boxes and 22 Hidayah gift boxes sponsored by the public through the YOSHMyFundAction sustenance sharing channel were distributed to Asnaf Muallaf and Asnaf Yatim.

All beneficiaries were asnaf under the care of PERKIM, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, and Nur Hidayah Welfare and Care Organisation.

The Kongsi Rezeki handover programme also emphasised the concept of ikhtiar hidup (survival), where selected asnaf families underwent interviews with Halo Telco and YOSHMyFundAction to help them generate side income through business opportunities.

Halo Telco Sdn Bhd and YOSHMyFundAction had identified potential beneficiaries to receive the ikhtiar hidup assistance scheme by providing business capital in the form of goods, marketing materials, stalls, and guidance in conducting business as well as managing financial flows and stocks from the business so that it can be sustained in the long run.

The programme is hoped to increase community spirit, especially among the youth to get involved in volunteer activities.

It is also hoped to alleviate the burden borne by families living near the city of Kuala Lumpur who are affected by the economy, which is now entering the recovery phase and their post-COVID-19 pandemic well-being.

The collaboration of students and volunteer bodies is also a platform to increase the visibility and involvement of Malaysian students who are empathetic and caring towards the community. - UPM
