MALANG (Indonesia) – Some 18 students from Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), took part in a Reise de Java 2017 mobility programme at Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, Indonesia, recently.
Program director, Muhammad Zulsyahmi Ab Rahman said the program would enable students to gain new learning experiences while abroad and also enable them to exchange views and opinions with students there.
"The exchange of students programme has given a positive impact to all participants as they are able to learn in a new environment. It makes them to be more open minded, " he said
He also said the program would strengthen the ties between UPM students and their counterparts from Universitas Brawijaya (UB), where the majority of them come from different backgrounds and cultures.
"Among the universities the students visited were Universitas Islam Negeri Malang, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian students, most of whom were from the Medical Faculty, held a meeting with Malaysian students at Universitas Brawijaya. During the meeting, various interesting topics and information were shared.
Bachelor of Science (Hons) Major in Mathematics student, Nur Sahira Faghira Tahrir Adli said the program had its own objectives, that is to produce skillful and competent students in line with what is intended by the university.
"The programme has helped to improve my communication skills, while the difference in atmosphere there never posed an obstacle for us to accept something new as the experiences gained can be shared with our friends at UPM.”
“The new experiences were gained during the visits to the universities, partly due to the differences in environments,” she said.
A "sharing session" was conducted to share framework, activities and programmes carried out by the Mathematics Undergraduates Club members with their Mathematics Club counterparts in Indonesia. – UPM.
