Prof. Dr. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations)

SERDANG, Nov 30: Prof. Dr. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin has been appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), for a period of three years, effective December 1, 2020 to November 30, 2023. 

Prof. Dr. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, 43, replaces Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo, whose term of office as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) expired on August 31, 2019.  

Prof. Dr. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin is from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

He obtained his PhD from the University of Liverpool, UK, in the field of Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Management; B. Eng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology; and Dip. Eng Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Wigan and Leigh College.

He served as a tutor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from August 2001 to September 2008, and as a Senior Lecturer in the same department from September 16, 2008, until September 2013.

He was appointed as Associate Professor on October 1, 2013.

Born in Perak, he was appointed as the Principal of the Fifteenth Residential College from March 1, 2016 to January 31, 2018, and the Principal of the Tenth and Eleventh Residential Colleges from February 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020.

He was also a Board Member of JOMWaqf.com from March 2017 to September 2020; he is Chair and Representative of Co-opbank Pertama (CBP) representing the Putrajaya branch from January 2018 until now; Treasurer of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (Malaysian branch) from January 2016 to date; and Secretary of the University of Liverpool Malaysia Alumni Association from June 2020 to present.

He will be holding the portfolio as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) to lead and take responsibility for the entire administration of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations), as well as managing UPM's network with industry and community to enhance the quality of teaching, learning, research and dissemination of information to society in general. - UPM
