SERDANG, March 4 – Sister Sabariah from Malaysia, an icon portrayed as the Muslim Mother Teresa of Montreal, Canada, accompanied 50 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) needy students in the gotong-royong preparation of special meals at the Majlis Tautan Hati bersama Sister Sabariah.

The event held at the Food Complex (Food 6), Faculty of Food Science and Technology, UPM involved 30 volunteers from Sahabat Masjid UPM who prepared the food.

The 70-year-old icon is internationally recognised for her charitable acts of feeding the homeless in Montreal, Canada for over 30 years.

Her foundation, the Sabria Foundation, shared its experiences with UPM’s charitable organisation, Sahabat Masjid UPM on ways to organise socially responsible programmes.

The first ever event organised by Sahabat UPM Club of the University Islamic Centre aimed at strengthening the relationship between Sabria Foundation and the university’s management while providing a chance for students to get acquainted with Sister Sabariah. At the same time, it would create a bilateral network between UPM and a renowned Malaysian-owned non-profit organisation overseas.

Also present was UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris. - UPM
